Hello, Wonderful site with songs, calls and food habits given. Though I live in a metropolitan city, with a small garden, I could recognise many of the species mentioned: including Robin, Doves, Mynas, Koels, larks, bulbuls, bee eaters, rollers, parakeets, pee wee, hud hud, finches, crows, and ofcourse kites. Keep it up.....Best Regards

Hi
its a good dbase for nature lovers.....but i was looking for info on habitats and major food source on some local birds like bats, Cuckoo, humming birds etc...but to my disappointment its not in the website.
Because of global warming and development the birds are losing their natural habitat and their food source. How can we help to mitigate this situation.
It would be helpful if you provide info or tips to save their habitat...like for eg bats eat guava and badam we can grow these trees in our houses and in the municipal parks.....in bezubaan pakshiyon ki dekhbal kaun karega ??
With Best Regards
Praseinjith.

till now lots of improvements...and lots of new features...
But download section still in the infant stage..
and u also removed Shyamal's Software.
Hope we can expect more in the download section...
One suggestion pls..
Right now you are arranged the Database according to Gallary wise. Could you also make it in the OBI style..(ie Family and then Family members wise..). It's realy help us to spot the bird in th e website instantly...
regards...
All the Best in future...

Bird anagrams could be a good way to make bird watching interesting. Examples :

4.ADESH ATE STRONG KOEL.

This is my favorite site. I was looking for exact name of the Eagle which I often see while crossing the Belandur Lake in Bangalore.
I guess it is the BRAHMINY KITE. I know very less about birds. But I like watching and identifying them.
I just had one difficulty in the website. Suppose I type 'Eagle' and click on search, it lists few links. If I click on one click it takes me to a page with the bird image. However if I click on Next, it takes me to the next bird image in the list. I cannot come back to my Search page. I have to type the search word again. I wish there was a Back button to come back to my Search page, instead of me doing the search again.
Please help me out in using your websites, Search option easily.

I just got back from West Bengal and was kicking myself for not taking my binoculars and a good birding book of Indian birds. I took notes though and am now trying to identify them. My most remarkable bird was the Common Hoopoe. Everything I read says he's quite common but I found him quite remarkable. I sighted him near a Shiva temple way out in the country near the Mallabhum Institute of technolgy in Bishnupur West Bengal. I saw quite a few other birds even without binoculars and wish your website had thumbnail sketches so I could browse. Beautiful pictures, though, even if I can't find what I'm looking for!

Your site is brilliant.
It wld be great if you provided more info on each bird species as well as new developments in the field.
Some species have only one of the sexes. it wld be gr8 if we cld get the other morphs like the immature, juvenile,..
Most importantly, species like raptors and gulls n terns should have more pics in flight.
Really brilliant work on the waders!!

Hi Vijay
Really appreciate your efforts and the decison to take up this profession.
I myself have a keen desire to get into it. I have started a small way and have brought myself 8-16X 40 Olumpus Binoculars.
I stay on the 12th floor of a building on the border of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and have identified around 30 species of bird right from my windows. Some of them are :-
Alexandrine Parakeet, Coppersmith Barbet, Ashy Prinia, Long-Tailed Shrike, Greater Coucal, White-Breasted Waterhen, Baya Weaver, Purple Sunbird, Black Drongo, Asian Koel, Jungle Crow, Golden Oriole, Pied Myna, Yellow Breasted Sparrow, Kingfisher, Sparrow, Crow, Myna, Piegon, Spotted Dove, Magpie Robin, Palm Swift.
This all in the last two months. I am expecting a much more action in the coming months, when migratory species would visit the open area , forest and small paddy field adjoining my building.
Happy Birding

Hi,
Wonderful site. Amazing pictures.
I entered the site as I wanted to identify a bird i saw a little while ago amongst the trees in the place where I live. I happened to see this tiny bird (bright brown colored), probably smaller than a sparrow, with a long (about 6" to 8") green tail (ribbon-like and about an inch wide). I am not sure if the tail consisted of just one feather or two feathers.
I am wondering if what I saw is really a bird with a tail as described above, or whether it was a sparrow carrying a long blade of green grass. I sighted this bird twice, with about 20 minutes between the two sightings.
Look forward to hearing from you.
With best regards,
Franklin Gonsalves

Hey Mr. Vijay, you have made an excellent website.
this is the second time i have visited it to look for a bird by the call and i found it.
The oriental honey buzzard.
My cousin, lives in a apartment complex by the name "White House" in a locality called R.T Nagar in Bangalore.
last night i was at his place and there was this screechng sound of a bird, i just could not place the bird. i thought it must either be a nightjar or some kind of a owl.
I visited your site this mornign and looked for the bird, and i finally found it.
I was way off.
Honestly, i myself have been a ardent bird watcher. but had never come across this bird.
This was new to me.
But thank you for the lovely site.
regards
Yogi

Hello,
i'm living in Bodh Gaya for the next 6months and am delighted at the avian diversity here. I saw my first sun bird today and have yet been able to identify it with either any in my book of indian birds or on the internet. It was small and agile (as i guess most are!), had a yellow throat with a thick black line running downwards, and had white supercilium and cheeks. Does anyone know what kind of sunbird this is? Thanks very much, Kieran

Hi,
Does anyone know which bird is known as "Kolli Koravan" in Kerala? This one is a nocturnal bird and is often associated with death and misfortune. Male and female birds make loud and clear sounds throughout the night during Aug-Sep months. The two distinct sounds I heard are Ku-Hoo and Ku-Hu-Hu-Hu (said to be ku-thi-chu-du in Malayalam meaning - burn the dead body well in the funeral pyre). Scary!
I guess this bird is also known as Kalan Kozhi in other parts of Kerala. Any idea?

It will surely help to preserve the biodiversity of our beloved country.

Your site is easily the best information resource on birds on net.Bird sound recordings are surprisingly clear and uniform even those of rare varieties; I wonder how u managed to record them!I play those in may pc speakers to confuse the birds on nearby tree :-)

it is late April and I just spotted a smallish bird (white body) with a long white, feathered tail. It was perched on my bougainvillea and when it disappeared into a tree higher up, it was like a white streak of lightning. Beautiful but frustrating, as I don't know what species this may be. Any ideas? It sounds quite chirpy but musically, not harshly so. Thanks, regards

Hi Vijay,
Thanks for sharing so many wonderful photographs and the bird calls too. It is indeed inspiring and very helpful for a beginer like me.
Just a small suggestion. Under the menu Gallery, you have catrgorised birds based on types and have them in Gallery 1 to Gallery 39. Instead of "Gallery 1", could you give meaningful names to the Galleries. for eg. Gallery 39 can be renamed as Munias.

Great site you are maintaining, Vijay
I went through the birds gallery, and all the shots were excellent....
I was looking for one particular bird, but couldn't find it. I'm from kerala and we call it "UPPAN" or "CHEMPOTHU". Dont know the scientific name. It is black in colour with bright red wings. It is fairly big(body about 35 cms) and a long tail(about 20 cms) and has medium sized legs. The bird is fairly common, and makes a continuous loud hooting noise. I'd be grateful if you could provide some information about this bird.

Dear Vijay,
I am amazed at the quality and the variety of pictures you have taken, given that bird photography is such an exacting job, seldom giving desired results. You are an exceptionally talented photographer.
Thank you for exhibiting all these beautiful pictures.I thoroughly enjoy gazing and marvelling at them.
May the Lord give you the opportunity to churn out a hundred million more photographs of similar beauty.
Cheers,
Gowri.
