Kabini/Bandipura (Aug1 to 9, 2003)

It was raining and overcast most of the time. The splendid forest was lush green and full of life. We made several trips into the forest in our jeep. A long motor-boat outing into the backwaters of Kabini was to say the least – refreshing! Elephants everywhere. We sighted several Common Langur, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Stripe-necked Mangoose and Gaur. A lone panther and a pack of 9 Dholes were the mammal highlights. Please do take a look at the “Non-Avian Gallery” on Indiabirds for some mammal images from this trip.

While I was able to get images of The Common Flameback (Male & Female), a Indian Grey Hornbill and a Streak-throated Woodpecker…(added to the Birds Gallery on Indiabirds), the focus of this trip was to record some bird calls. While KN is working on his collection, I have added the following bird calls to the “Hear-the-bird” section of Indiabirds.

1. White-bellied Woodpecker

2. Asian Koel

3. Ashy Prinia

4. Tawny-bellied Babbler

5. Greater Coucal

6. Common Myna

7. Hill Myna

8. Malabar Parakeet

9. Chestnut Headed Bee-eater

10. Lesser Whistling Duck

11. Common Kingfisher

Hope you enjoy these inputs as much as I did bringing them to you... regards, Vijay Cavale
