G'day Vijay,
Thanks for your message regarding your new site, I hope you don't mind
but I've taken the liberty to recommend it on various birding
mailing-lists such as Birdchat (US) EBN (Europe) Oriental Birding (Asia)
and our own australian list Birding-Aus.
Hopefully it will spread the news that India is a fantastic birding
destination!
I will also link to it on our Linklist page

Hi Vijay
I have created a link to my Bird Photography page on Fatbirder [
http://www.fatbirder.com ]
Fatbirder has over 5000 links to birding websites around the world and
currently gets about 100,000 hits a week.
I have just started putting good quality pictures around the site and
could add a few of yours as a "showcase" with a suitable
acknowledgement (name and URL), which should get more traffic to your
site. obviously it will also enhance my site.
Please let me know if you wish to let me use a pictures... I have in
mind the rufous-backed shrike.
It would also be nice if you add a link to Fatbirder.

Hi there Vijay,
I very much enjoyed looking at the birds photographs on your web page.
They are really excellent.
One day I hope that I can take beautiful bird photographs like you.
I will bookmark your site and return often so that I can learn about your wonderful birds in India.
Happy birding,

I found your site through BirdChat. Really enjoy looking at your bird
pictures. They give me a far better idea of what birders see on your
side of the world.
There was one problem in viewing the site, however, and I don't know if
the problem was with my software or with yours. The pictures of the
following birds DID NOT open:
Little Grebe (Male)
Little Grebe (Female)
Pheasant-Tailed Jacana
Rufousbacked Shrike
Common Sandpiper
Gray Duck
I look forward to revisiting your web site often. Thank you.

Dear Vijay
A most impressive collection of photos and an interesting selection of species. Note that the birds labelled as Pintails are in fact Garganey (Anas querquedula). Keep up the good work.

Vijay,
What an awesome site! I'm enjoying paging thru your photos - really makes
me want to come to India! I can't get photos that good with my 600 mm
lens! You obviously have much more patience.
By-the-way, I found a few links that don't work correctly - the ones I
remember were the little grebes

Dear Vijay and Amrit,
Happy New Year to you and your families.
As you are aware, there are very few websites on
Indian birds especially those who display pictures. In
this regard there has been a good response from
visitors to our websites. To make these interested
people more happy I have put links to your sites in a
prominent place on my site. You can find the link at
http://www.geocities.com/rs_suresh/photo.html
This will give exposure to more Indian bird pictures
to visitors. Hope you appreciate this idea.
I would certainly be happy if you could put a
reciprocal link to my site too. The link is

Hi Vijay,
I am really delighted to see this website. Congratulations. On behalf of
birdwatchers' fraternity from Haryana, I express my thankfulness to you. I
am sure, birdwatching will get a boost from this website. You have fulfilled
a great gap.
Once again, congratulations.
Also, a small suggestion, I am afraid about the photo of Rufousbacked
Shrike. I think the bird shown is greybacked shrike. Please check up and
confirm as I the photo does not show any rufous on the back.

Vijay Congratulations on your website. I have been lucky to have spent many months in India during my 26 visits there. Most of my time has been spent in West Bengal and Bihar working with The Steel Authority of India on Environmental Control issues associated with their steel making plants and iron ore and coal mines. Not always the most beautiful places to be , but always interesting.
Here in Australia, I have 27acres of untouched bushland which is my private conservation area. I am also a vice president of the South Australian Ornithological Association and have been a member of that Association for more than 35 years. Vijay You are not alone in the world with your concerns for its wildlife. There are people like you everywhere. Thank goodness.

Hi Vijay ,
Went through your site ,on birds in India . Good ,really enjoyed myself
. I work very hard round the year and whenever there are any holidays or
I get time to take off work ,you will find me in the forests of
Karnataka , or in the outskirts of Bangalore amid the
greenery and wilderness.
I love Nature and Wildlife , I have also been photographing wildlife for
the last two years.
This is my passionate hobby, maybe a little later in life I hope to
devote more of my time only to this .
It is always nice to meet others who are interested and passionate
about the same subject.
Who knows how much longer we will be able to enjoy all this ,and
whether our children when they grow up will also see and enjoy the
bounties and beauties of our natural surrounds.
My name is Sandeep Mukherjee and I live in Bangalore , I have my own
business and
am 40 years old . My son Aloke is 9 years old and is also a nature
lover.
Do mail me a few words about your wild farm project .

Hello Mr.Vijay Cavale:
Just visit your web site of the great photos about birds It 's really fantastic.
Last december, I had a chance to visit India with my family That is a very good place for birding
We got 201 sp in 9 days!!! So I have some feeling about the photos you took, maybe just feel familiar.
Sometimes I am confused with the English name you use below the photo , that are different with I saw in the Field Guide. Maybe just because of the different local names.
And there are two photos, the birds do not match the name below the photo.
Just like the ""pintail female"" , in my opinion, that should be "garganey"
and the ""grey duck"", it should be Spot-billed duck.
Maybe I am wrong or just because of the different local name.
So that let me had an idea that maybe you can put the scientific names on it after the english common name.
Just a suggestion.
Best wishes
Sincerely yours
Jo-szu Tsai from Taiwan, hoopoe@pchome.com.tw

I just visited your website briefly, but I'll go
back and look at it in more detail later. You have done a wonderful job
illustrating the variety and beauty of India's avifauna. The diversity of
birds you have been able to photograph, and photograph well, is very
impressive. It's clear from your work that photographing birds is for you,
as it is for me, a labor of love.
A couple of questions and suggestions - I was intrigued by the bird
labelled Blue Jay - isn't that a roller of some sort, or is blue jay a
local common name for that bird? I would encourage you, when you have the
time, to add a little basic biology information about as many of the birds
as you can in the More Info links - that's a great idea, but all of the
links I tried simply had the common name of the bird. Some basic info
like latin name, family, habitat, feeding behaviors, reproductive biology,
unusual behaviors, etc. would add tremendously to the usefulness of your
site, I think. The other suggestion I would have is to modify your user
info at NPN so your website URL is included there. I try to visit most of
the websites of participants at NPN, and use the individual profile to get
that info. It might increase the number of visits and comments on your
site significantly.
Keep up the great work, Vijay.
Best,

Dear Vijay,
VIREO is in receipt of your e-mail of January 30, 2001. We have taken a look at your attractive Web site and are quite impressed with your bird photographs. We would like to encourage you to submit some of your work for review and possible inclusion in our collection.
VIREO (Visual Resources for Ornithology) is a part of the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, PA, USA. The Academy is one of the oldest science museums in the United States, having been established in 1812. VIREO itself was established in 1979 as a repository for bird photographs. Our ultimate goal is to have all of the world's species on film. We currently have about 6,400 of the world's 10,000 species, including all regularly-occurring North American birds. Most of our images are in 35mm slide format, although we do have about 5,000 prints, both color and black-and-white.
VIREO licenses reproduction rights to its photographs to a wide variety of commercial clients including, but not limited to, magazines, newspapers, book publishers, and producers of CD-ROMs. When an image is licensed, VIREO shares the revenue with the contributing photographer on a 50:50 basis. For a fee, nature artists use our images for reference or renderings and copies of our slides are sold, at cost, to the general public and school instructors for presentations and lectures. VIREO is also used as a resource by ornithologists engaged in research.
While we occasionally accept 35mm duplicates from photographers, we prefer originals. Our slides are stored in refrigerated archival chambers to protect them and to extend their useful life. If a contributing photographer so wishes, we can provide professional quality duplicates at no cost.
If you are interested in submitting some of your work and/or if you have any questions, please contact me at Mathews@acnatsci.org.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Bill Mathews

I've looked at your website, and it is beautiful. You have some
fantastic photographs and an excellent site design. Wow.
I like the sketch of what you're doing with your 15 acres of land.
Is it hard to buy land in India? Because I can guarantee you it is
incredibly expensive to purchase land in the United States--unless
you're a developer or a mining company. Good luck with your
reforestation!
J. M. Aguiar [steelshard@tamu.edu]
Vijay
A great site, with lots of great images.
From a western Europe perspective, some of the birds were familiar, but some
of the names unfamiliar, e.g. the Paddy Heron is called Indian Pond Heron
here. A couple of mistakes were apparent, e.g. the Spotted Sandpipier is a
Wood Sandpiper, but this is very over-critical of a good site.
I have just come back from being away, watching gulls I'm afraid, so am a bit
pushed for time at the moment. However, I promise to come back and give the
site more careful attention, then give you more detailed feedback. I will
put it the the surfbirds team that we make a feature of the site, possibly
promoting birding in India.

Dear Vijay
Sorry I haven't responded earlier about this. I have been away and very busy since.
The bill and wing structure of this bird suggests it is an Acrocephalus warbler and the colouration and size indicates Blyth's Reed. I cannot explain the strange noise it was making. Are you certain it came from this bird?
I have been through the photos on your website and believe the following may be misidentified:
Eurasian Sparrowhawk - the presence of a mesial streak shows that it is not Eurasian; the general colouration and poor tail-barring suggests Shikra.
Tawny Eagle - the dark iris suggests Greater Spotted/Lesser Spotted and the dark colouration suggests adult Greater Spotted; in addition I think the nostril is too rounded for Tawny but I cannot be sure from the angle the photo was taken.
Female Montagu's Harrier - the head pattern looks very well marked and suggests Pallid.
Greenish Warbler - it is difficult to tell from this dark photograph but the bill looks long and darkish and the supercilium narrow and contrasting strongly with a dark eyestripe, suggesting Large-billed Leaf Warbler.
I hope these comments help
