Folks,

I got the following mail from Deane of owlpages. Do you agree with Bubo bengelensis?

regards,

Vijay Cavale

I have classified it as Bubo bengelensis - they were once considered a sub-species of Bubo bubo, but recent DNA studies have suggested
that the Indian eagle owl is a seperate species, Bubo bengelensis.
Your photo is at http://owlpages.com/species/bubo/bengelensis/bengal2.html

best wishes,

Greetings,
With regards to Bubo bubo / Bubo bengelensis: I'm no expert in taxonomy, and personally I would rather not see so many splits, but the reference I have for Bubo Bengelensis is:
"Konig, Weick & Becking - Owls, A guide to Owls of the World - Yale University Press - Pages 295, 296"
This book also indicates no population of Bubo Bubo in India.

best regards,
